FAMILY AND FRIENDS TIPS:
Taking care of your loved ones is not an easy task. It takes patience, time and often times some tricky tactics to get the people you love to listen to you, let alone act on it. The VitaHeart™ CHS makes it so much easier because we give your loved ones everything they need to manage their cholesterol health naturally without drugs.*
You know it's important that your loved one lower his or her high cholesterol. But sometimes it may be difficult to stick to a diet or exercise plan. Below are tips you can use to help your loved one stick to his or her heart healthy lifestyle plan. You can print out this sheet and hang it where it is easy to see.
Learn For Them. Your loved one may not know much about high cholesterol or how to begin a heart-healthy lifestyle. So learn it for them. Learn as much as you can about high cholesterol. Take some time to learn how to read food labels and understand the different types of foods that can help them maintain healthy cholesterol.
Show Them How. Don't just tell your loved one what they need to do to lower their cholesterol - show them HOW to do it. If you see an interesting article, clip it and give it to them. If you're in the grocery store and see a heart-healthy substitute for a food they like - buy it for them to show them that there is good tasting food out there that is also good for them. If you think that they should be taking a supplement - get it for them and tell them the benefits of using the product.
Always Tell. If you see your loved one eating something that you know is horrible for their heart - TELL them. Show them the nutrition facts and point out the reasons why it's bad for their heart. If you know of a heart-healthy substitute for the food tell them about it or even better, go and get it for them.
Grocery Shop Together. Getting out of the house is healthy, especially for those who spend much of their time in the house. Explore your favorite grocery store or visit a different market. While you're at the store, show your loved one how to read the food labels. Check out new foods and set a goal to try one new food that's low in saturated fat and cholesterol each week.
Cook Together. Make plans to get together at least once a week to try new heart-healthy recipes. This will give you a perfect opportunity to introduce new foods and to teach your loved one how to make healthier ingredient choices when cooking. You can even make it fun by making a dinner theme like French night - ooolala! Always try to make extra and freeze it. That way when your loved one is short on time they have a healthy alternative to fast food.
Give Yourself the Credit You Deserve. You are giving your loved one the greatest gift possible: yourself. Whether your loved one and others acknowledge this gift doesn't matter. You know the energy you are using to do what is right in your heart. You deserve to feel good about your choice to help and should be congratulated on your selflessness and generosity.
